Putting the Media ON ALERT: Don't Bite the Hand That Feeds You!

I don't know about you but I'm tired of parents being disrespected in the media. Disney and Nickelodeon portray us as missing or as downright buffoons. Commercials sell to our children. We look broken and, yes, as a parent, I have a few cracks of my own. I also know, however, that it's the adults in our family who make decisions, train, provide, make the rules and discipline. If our children are led to believe that we can't be relied upon, where do they turn? To Mickey Mouse and SpongeBob? I pray that isn't so. My daughter influences my day and and brings out the best of me but at the end of the day, I'm the adult and she is the child. She knows I say no with her interest in mind. She may not like all the boundaries but she feels safe within them. I'm keeping a close eye on what products and programs are saying about parents and all caregivers. They may not respect what I do and who I am to my child but as the person paying the bills in this joint, I'll make sure they're not getting my time or money either.
