God Tap Entry 1 - Galatians 5:9
I normally reserve my blog to share all the bits in my head that need working out but wanted to start some "God Tap" entries to record all the funky little ways that God just shows OUT. Last night was such an occasion:
I've been experimenting with how food effects my body, sleep, mood etc. and wanted to also dedicate my efforts as a spiritual discipline through fasting. The first step was to stop eating at 7:30 and then I added going gluten free this past Tuesday. Totally blew it last night. I went to a women's gathering called Marry Mary Night and wanted to fully the enjoy the experience, which included wedding cake after 8pm. As I was eating the cake, among my many thoughts was, “I wonder if God really minds what I’m doing right now, especially since it’s at a prayer function.” I’d been doing really well with both goals and had even commented to my friend Holly that I felt my eyes were less strained and were actually feeling healthier (I don’t know if that’s a THING, but it felt that way to me). I went home having had a lovely time at the event and in the middle of the night, found out EXACTLY what God thought of what I did. In a DEEP sleep I saw in my mind’s eye, in BIG BOLD WHITE LETTERS: GALATIANS 5:9. I have a bad memory for verse and had to look it up. It reads, “A little yeast works through the whole batch of dough.” Aside from the obvious gluten reference, I felt God convicting me to get an immediate handle on this before I spoil the totality of my efforts. So, today I keep going and this is my goal for Lent - but I'm (re)starting today: Gluten free, fast after 7:30 and no obvious dessert food. There. Accountability.
