Big Prayers, Bigger God

Brothers and sisters who are loved by God,

We are guilty of praying too small.  Why do we limit ourselves with the CREATOR OF THE UNIVERSE?!  If what we want has the POTENTIAL of existence, what stops us from asking?

Fear that it won't come true? If it doesn't, you know how to do THIS. We are no worse for praying BOLDLY. God encourages us to pray with expectancy and you should prepare as if God will say YES.  That is to say, if you're praying for wealth be wise with money and treat it Biblically,  TODAY. If you are praying for the perfect spouse, remember they only need to be perfect for you, whatever flaws they may have.  If you are praying for a prodigal family member, be courageous enough to stop the actions that hinder their need for God.

Do you worry you don't have the words? Our prayers don't have to be poetic. God understands our language in its many forms. He sees the pleading in our tears and knows the longings of our hearts.  He sees the crushing burden of our groans and acknowledges the powerful utterance of "Jesus". The point is not the state of the package in which we ask but who we offer these gifts of words and sounds and actions.  Do you keep them to yourself or give them to another limited person? Give them to God, our Father who longs to receive our deepest desires. He is THE one from whom all blessings flow.

Do you pray and not wait for the answer? Too many of us have "hit and run" prayers. God answers prayer but PAY ATTENTION to how that may come. It may be yes now, it may be no or there may be a delay but how will you realize God answers prayer if you never really expect Him to?  God will answer your prayer literally, offer hope in subtle signs, speak to you in scripture or send someone to take care of your need.  Position yourself to get the answer. This requires expectancy, awareness and a trust in God that this is exactly what He'll do.

Don't hold back. Be as specific as you can be. Pray with contrition in your heart and as a response to the overflowing love you have for God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit. Pray with gratitude. Speak to God over dishes and while you drive. Pray for people you love, strangers in an ambulance and the untouched people groups of this world. Pray for the health and holiness of governments, regardless of your political affiliation. Pray with the desire to leave evil behind you. Pray BIG, beloved. Our God is bigger.
