Finding Your Weird
Brothers and Sisters who are loved by God,
One of the great delights of my life is being a little weird. I don't have a conventional job, I use essential oils and grow strange things in my kitchen all in the name of health. Some would say I have a quirky sensibility. I absolutely KNOW that God exists even though I can't see Him or touch Him. I even capitalize Him in the middle of sentences. I love the color of words and I see my prayers as picture moments before I speak them. I'm comfortable and cozy in these spaces. I think the weirder I get, the closer I am to what God made me to be.
I'm not impervious to hurt feelings when people don't get me or mock what I do. The pain just doesn't last very long. The moment may rock my rhythm but I know that my drum beats in time to MY heart and no one else's. Step in time, step in time...
I hope you're weird. I hope you are not a watered-down, generic, gray, indistinguishable version of yourself. God made us to stand OUT, to know how our unique combinations of personality, interests, passions, gifting and talent contribute to this world and to each other! Be an explosion of color and texture, sweet perfume and music! THAT is who YOU are!!
Rejection is not an excuse good enough to stand down from your brand of special. Fear should not be allowed to extinguish your light. Take courage in the things that bear good fruit!
I pray you find your tribe, the people who encourage and celebrate you, nurture and honor you, love you beyond reason. They will give you the room to be a spy in the house of you and cheer you on.
Father, may we know what is of You and what is of this world, in our hearts and in our actions. God, Your will. Jesus, Your presence. Spirit, Your counsel. Amen.
