Dorothy Wanders off the Yellow Brick Road
Brothers and Sisters who are loved by God,
God's path is clear, bathed in light and narrow. Many of us, though, live our lives zig zagging our way back and forth across it. Some run parallel to it, knowing it's there but not wanting to touch it. Some start so far from it they don't realize it's there and they have to be found and pointed to it. The people who walk it with eyes straight ahead are a precious few.
I am one who knew of it but as someone easily distracted, looking for adventure and not terribly smart, I saw a brite and shiny object, just off the beaten path, and went to it. I followed another and another until I no longer looked for the path of God. I never thought to ask myself who had put down the things I was following.
Oh, my beloveds, look down and see what path lies under your feet. It's not safe in the woods. There are roots that trip and advancing is slow when you think where you came from is the same place you're going. The darkness hides treachory and the objects of desire are a trap to keep you here.
But God is good. When we need Him and are desperate to find our way back, His path shines so brite we need only to look for it. FROM WHEREVER WE ARE, we can see it and it's waiting. When needed, God sends a guide. We just need to walk toward it.
When I left the path, what I didn't realize was that all the adventure I needed was RIGHT THERE but I wasn't willing to turn the corner to find out what it would be. I didn't know it was keeping me from danger and regret. I didn't give it time to lead me into dynamic, personal and perfect destinations.
Now Brothers and Sisters, yes, debris can fall onto God's path. It can be hard to climb over or may lead you off the path when you try to get around it. It may weigh heavily as you belly crawl under it. The path isn't always clear but it will always point you in the right direction.
Oh, Dorothy, stay on the yellow brick road...
