Theme: We don’t see the world as it is; we see the world as we are.
WHAT DID YOU HEAR?
Watch with your gut.
WHAT DO YOU THINK?
I counsel my daughter...a LOT. I don't know if she gets an excessive amount because she's a singleton but lucky for me, she is very gracious and listens patiently. One thing I repeat as often as I can is this:
You will make decisions with 3 things: Your mind, your heart and your gut. Your gut MUST win regardless of what the other two do.
Your heart, although a good gauge for compassion, will also talk you into doing something that's not good for you:
I'm supposed to give of myself till it hurts, right?
I'm sure I can be enough for the both of us.
Your brain, although a great tool for reasoning, will also use intellect against you:
I'm too smart to be fooled by anyone.
If it' can't be backed by science, it's not real.
And then there's your gut. I call it God's alarm bell. How many times have you found yourself in trouble and remembered there was SOMEthing in you, that still small voice that tried to keep you out of harm's way...but you didn't listen?
There's something about this guy that doesn't feel right.
I probably shouldn't go to that party.
The gut wins EVERY TIME.
WHAT WILL YOU DO?
Gut check major decisions.
NOW TALK TO GOD...
Father, I have gotten it wrong more times than I care to admit. When will I learn? I would love for your small voice to turn into a roar when I'm in danger of not being in line with your will. Father, protect us from ourselves. In Jesus' name, amen.
