Everything I Do Is Given By God
There have been times that I have asked God for assurances that I'm doing what I'm supposed to be doing, for the jewelry and for the oil, and wondered if God was blessing the direction I was taking them both. God answered in unmistakable ways, from His word:
For the jewelry (and it applies to the oil as well):
"The LORD your God has blessed you in all the work of your hands. He has watched over your journey through this vast wilderness. These forty years the LORD your God has been with you, and you have not lacked anything."
(Deuteronomy 2:7)
Every year, since I chose to to walk with Jesus, God has given me a verse to be the theme for that year. Deuteronomy 2:7 was 2014's. (It was even given while I was still 42, 40 years since I had immigrated from the Philippines, so that was deeply meaningful. The verse also came just a couple months after Mark found a new job - after 8 months of unemployment - so it was clear what the wilderness was too.) It assured me that whatever I put my hand to, it would bear fruit, and so it passed. 2014 was filled with new artistic inspiration. The oil business became a symptom of service as I used my hands to put oil on people I loved. It would also be the year I took over our mortgage with the oil, a prayer also answered.
For the oil specifically:
"Then Mary took about a pint of pure nard, an expensive perfume (an essential oil); she poured it on Jesus' feet and wiped his feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume."
(John 12:3 NIV)
Most months I attend a prayer group called Mary Night where women from a variety of denominations come together in someone's home to sit at the feet of Jesus (Luke 10:39). We pray together, share testimony, listen to worship music (typically, Christian Contemporary) and take communion. It is a time of contemplation, renewal and edification. One of these nights, I was praying for God to reveal that HIS will was in my oil business, and then someone spoke this verse. As I heard it, God pressed into my heart, "How many times have you instructed people to put oil on their feet? How many times have you served by putting oil on someone else's feet yourself? This is my will."
With that, I have conducted my oil business with a PASSION and JOY.
Whatever my gifts, resources, talents and abilities, they are given by God. So, for God, they will be done.
