Lord, Scar Me Just Enough

Beloved of God,

One of my whispered prayers is, "Lord, scar me just enough." The scars on my body are the tangible reminders of lessons I can't afford to forget. The scar on my finger reminds me to pay attention to what I'm doing. The scar on my stomach reminds me to think things through. And the scar on my wrist reminds me not to let a fight get out of hand. Better yet, don't fight. I think life's milestones do the same to our spirits. They mark us. One of my greatest fears is not that hardship comes but that when it does it will have been for nothing. If I am to endure, I pray that it scar me just enough to walk away better than when it all began. Surviving a bad boyfriend gave my marriage the wisdom to know that you can't expect one person to be everything you need. Having moved all my life has taught me that it shouldn't be that easy to leave friends behind. The death of a loved one has helped me to love big NOW and being unemployed showed us how to wake up every day with the expectation of blessing. Life can be hard but the LESSONS are the point. I pray to be scarred just enough...

From now on, let no one cause me trouble, for I bear on my body the marks of Jesus.
